I have been a Valley resident for over 30 years, a business owner, and have played an active role in the community.
As your city councilmen for the last two years and current Mayor Pro-tem, I'm prepared to bring my experience and acumen to the city of Solvang and ensure the residents have a voice in the growth and quality of life here in our beautiful city.
Let's make Solvang great together.
As a business owner in downtown Solvang for the past 10 years, I have seen first-hand the struggles of my neighbors as far as additional pain and costs of business operations within the city. The permitting process, costs, and regulatory burdens are exorbitant, which delays entrepreneurial activity. Be friendly to new and current business. More business competition provides additional choices and lower prices to our community
Tourism is the lifeblood that brings vitality to this town; however, a balance must be maintained to support the best interests of the residents as well as maintaining a healthy and vibrant tourist environment. I authored a published case study titled the Fallacy of Occupancy. We can do better to even out the seasonality or weekend crunch that occurs.
As your city councilman I voted to update antiquated codes and regulations that were decades behind and created an un-level playing field. I have a lot of pride for our city, and I feel I can implement a fresh set of solutions while maintaining our traditional values and charm. Let's remove ordinances we choose not to enforce.
As a licensed mortgage lender, I have helped thousands of homeowners finance their dream. The high cost of housing is a macroeconomic problem, but we can apply more efforts at the local level to help our community. We need a centralized cache of housing resources for residents who want more information on housing opportunities. This could include resources for Section 8, rent subsidies, down payment assistance programs, and other county and state housing products. We can minimize development costs for greater supply and housing inventory selection for multiunit or the single ADU project. However, this must be within our defined constraints of limited resources of available city land and water. See the general plan that we approved in 2024 below.
